Monique McWhite

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, where the ocean has always been both a backdrop and an inspiration. After graduating with a B.F.A. in Painting & Printmaking from VCU School of the Arts, I dedicated myself to creating oil paintings that reflect the subjects closest to my heart, the power and calm of seascapes, the honor of military history, and the joy of pets who are family.

My work is deeply personal, whether it’s a commissioned portrait of a beloved dog, a detailed study of aircraft and ships, or a seascape meant to bring the horizon indoors. Each piece is crafted with care, balancing fine detail with emotion, so that it doesn’t just hang on a wall, it tells a story.

Over the years, I’ve been blessed to create custom art for clients who want to preserve memories, celebrate milestones, or bring beauty into their homes. What drives me is the connection: art as a way to honor, remember, and inspire.

When I’m not painting, you’ll often find me with my pets, Scooter, Peaches and Tommy, who keep me company in the studio, or enjoying the coastal life that continues to fuel my creativity.

In honor of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, I painted two murals from his ceiling, The Creation of Adam and The Libyan Sibyl. One of which is in my studio and keeps me motivated. The images make me happy so I can make my surroundings beautiful and calming.

Having art in my life brightens my spirit and brings me joy.
